What is Cloud Hosting?

Tradionally, websites were stored and serverd from one server. Cloud hosting refers to a system where many servers can act as one. This enables the website to be served to a user by any number of servers, making the whole system more robust and always available as it removes what is refered to as a "single point of failure". It also gives the added benefit that more users can be on the website at the same time without impacting the performance on delivery of the pages, thus insuring the user has a pleasurable viewing experience.

To the website viewer, the pages seems to come from a single server, hence the term "cloud" as requests are sent into the system and responses are sent back. In theory, the page can be served by on server and the next by another. To the user though, it looksn and behaves just like a normal website.
